The Labyrinth is perhaps one of the oldest, and certainly one of the most mysterious symbols
known to mankind. There is evidence of the existence of the classical Labyrinth symbol
(the most ancient labyrinth pattern) across southern Europe and North Africa from roughly 2000 BC
The Labyrinth is an analogy for life...It is not a maze or a puzzle to be solved but a path of meaning to be experienced.
Its path is circular and convoluted, it has no dead ends. They were first designed as a type of spiritual journey to guide the visitor
along a single path, twisting yet serene, not meant to confuse or puzzle as a traditional maze does.

The Merri Creek Labyrinth
The Merri Creek Labyrinth was created by the community for the community over 20
Years ago. The Merri Creek Labyrinth was created by
local residents over summer 2001-2002.
The Labyrinth is a valued local resource for enhancing health and well-being. It’s a space about connection, with the self, community and nature, a place where individuals and a community can
reflectively meditate on their lives - within the context of an urban yet natural environment. Simply,
its a place to go that makes you feel better... Join the FMCL!
Future Project
FMCL hope to construct and cultivate native garden beds
in the area surrounding the Merri Creek Labyrinth for the benifit of the community. The multi year project will also enhance the structure itself with the
natural rhythms of the local landscape.
